USTCC victory
June 13, 2006.
BENICIA, Calif. - USTCC veteran Jeff Mishtawy took an impressive win at Round
4 of the 2006 Hankook US Touring Car Championship, setting a new track
record, taking pole position and running away with the race in the Team Cobalt
California/GM Performance Division Cobalt SS Supercharged.
"This car does everything so well" Mishtawy said after the race. "With the team
developing and the Cobalt constantly getting better I think we may be able to
get a few more wins this season."
The weekend started off with a small mechanical failure that greatly limited
Team Cobalt California's running time on Saturday. While rectifying the issue,
the team was unable to set a time in the weekend's first qualifying session.
"We were quite let down about Saturday's Qualifying session, but we were
confident we could get it done in Sunday's session" said John Murphy, Team
Cobalt California's car chief for the USTCC series.
Mishtawy and the team came away with the fastest times in both Sunday's
practice and qualifying sessions.
"The crew worked very hard and put a great car under me," Mishtawy said. "A
big thanks to everyone who made this great result happen."
At the drop of the green flag, Mishtawy got a great start and led into the first
turn then was able to
stretch his lead over the next few laps.
During the race, Team Cobalt California and Mishtawy smashed the USTCC
track record by nearly one second.
With a large lead over the second place driver, Mishtawy brought the car to the
checkered flag safe and sound.
Team Cobalt California will next compete at Mid-Ohio in the Grand Am Cup and
at Summit Point for USTCC in July.
