Team Cobalt California cars take checkered flag at Daytona thanks to
tremendous crew effort

BENICIA, Calif. - The crew of Team Cobalt California sounded a heartfelt “well
done” on Friday as they watched both their Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged
cars take the checkered flag at Daytona International Raceway in the first race
of the 2006 Grand American Cup race season.
Car No. 48, driven by Thomas Lepper of Benicia, Calif, and James “Bo” Roach
of Tulsa Ok, finished 13th in-class after experiencing fuel supply problems.
“It’s a new car and we need to work out the bugs in this critical system,” said
Lepper, the team’s owner.
Car No. 98, driven by Jeff Lepper of Martinez, Calif. and V.J. Mirzayan of
Fresno, Calif, finished 24th in-class after a setback required an engine change
after the Thursday practice session.
With the technical assistance of GM Performance Division, Team Cobalt
California crew worked relentlessly to replace the engine, which had
successfully contended in every race during the 2005 season.
“Every crew member was involved in changing that engine,” Jeff Lepper said. “I
could not have been more proud of those guys. And to be involved in a racing
series where a single engine can last an entire season, that’s a very positive
thing and we shouldn’t have been surprised.”
Tom Lepper was especially happy that both Cobalts finished the race without
any body damage and in pristine condition despite a near record 88 car field.
The No. 48 and No. 98 cars will return to the track April 21-23 at Virginia
International Raceway.
“With some minor adjustments we’re expecting a better performance for both
Cobalts at VIR,” Thomas Lepper said.
Team Cobalt California is sponsored by Red Line Oil, Levan’s Catering, Clutch
Masters, Sparco, K & N Air Filters, Cobalt Friction, Vibrant Performance, and
Thomas Lepper Associates. Additional team supporters will be announced
soon.
